February 25th, 2011 Mission Statement:
The Bathurst High School Guidance Department is an integral part of a school's mission. Guidance and counselling services and programs promote the personal/social, educational and career development of all students. What Services Do They Provide? Counselling The department supports and helps all students in developing and managing their individual personal/social, educational, and career goals and plans. You may seek counselling as an individual, in a small group, when in crisis or in need of career advice. They also provide referrals to outside support services and programs. (Manitoba Education, 2011) Consultation, Coordination and Planning Prevention The guidance department also works with teachers, administrators, parents and outside sources to provide the students with the best possible opportunities and outcomes. (Manitoba Education, 2011) Guidance Education They respond to immediate and ongoing concerns that affect students' ability to learn. They have an early intervention program that includes consultation with family and teachers, referrals to support services, coordinated student support team activities, student advocacy and transitional planning. (Manitoba Education, 2011) Guidance programming focuses on developing competencies that will lead all students to personal success and fulfillment, and to make a contribution to society. Activities include group or classroom based guidance units, school-wide programs/projects as well as post-secondary career or educational exploration.
