Transcript of Natural Resources:)

Soil Facts!
Geothermal energy is the heat from the Earth. It's clean and sustainable. Resources of geothermal energy range from the shallow ground to hot water and hot rock found a few miles beneath the Earth's surface, and down even deeper to the extremely high temperatures of molten rock called magma.
The Definition Of Geothermal Energy
Renewable Resources (soil)
Concerns
What concerns do people have about this resource?
A concern people have about the resource soil is the pollution and gases in the soil.

Solution
What can people do to use this resource in a more sustainable way?
They can use it to grow more things instead of building a bunch of houses on it.

Flow Resources (Solar Energy)
What is the resource?
The renewable resource is soil.
How is it used?
Soil is an anchor for plants to grow in. It also provides food and nutrients and water for plants. It also provides storage places for organic remains.
Where was this resource developed?
Soil was made by decomposers and detrivores, eating

Solar energy is the cleanest, most abundant, renewable energy source available. And Canada has an excellent solar resource shining across the nation. Today's technology allows us to capture this energy in several ways, giving the public and commercial entities flexible ways to employ both the heat and light of the sun.
Definition
Renewable Resources (Soil)
-There are more microorganisms in a
handful, than people on Earth
-Soil is a living system
-Soil acts as a filter for underground
water filtering out pollutant
-It takes 500 years to produce just under
-Soil is at the bottom of the food chain, but
yet it is the cornerstone of life on Earth

What is the resource?
The resource is geothermal energy.
How is it used?
Geothermal energy is used cooking and heating.
Where was this resource developed?
Geothermal energy was developed in the Larderello fields.

Concerns
What concerns do people have about this resource?
Geothermal power plants can cause earthquakes.
Also it costs a lot of money.
The upper level of Earth where plants grow. Soil is usually black or dark brown material.
Solution
Petroleum (Crude oil)
Petroleum was formed about a million years ago from
dead animals and tiny plants dropping to the bottom
of shallow oceans and seas millions of years ago. Some of these petroleum pools are located below Canada's interior plains.
Natural Resources
Natural resources are useful materials that we get from the Earth. Natural means that us humans cannot make the natural resources, instead we make minor changes to the natural resources that in ways they benefit us.
-Geothermal energy can be found in the form of volcanoes, hot springs, and geysers
- Geothermal energy has been used since the ancient times in form of hot water
-Geothermal energy could produce 10% of the US electricity by the year of 2050
-Geothermal energy is the renewable source of energy because energy is produced continuously inside the earth
We don't build as much geothermal power plants around the world or in one area.
Solar Energy
What is the resource?
The resource is solar energy.
How is it used?
Solar energy is used when energy from the sun is changed into electricity.
Where was this resource developed?
Solar Energy is made by the sun. Solar energy panels were developed by a man named Alexandre Edmond Becquerel. He learned how electricy can be gentered form the sunlight and made solar panels in a short summary.

Natural Gas (Coal)
Solar Energy
Concerns
What concerns do people have about this resource?
Solar energy doesn't work at night time. Its expensive to build solar energy plants, and solar energy can be unreliable unless you live in a sunny climate.
solutions
Exploration
Exploring for crude oil cost oil companies may millions of $'s every year. In Canada a common method for oil exploration involves the use of a seismograph. Powerful computers are used to process the data from the seismograph. If the result seem promising, an exploratory well may be drilled
What can people do to use this resource in a more sustainable way?
The more you build solar energy plants the less expensive it gets. Also if the solar panels were more powerful to hold energy for during the night you wont have to worry about it when it gets dark
Extraction
In extractions, wells may be drilled to the layer of rock that contains the oil. The shaft of the oil well links the crude oil to the surface. The pressure of the surrounding rock and water helps push the petroleum to the surface. Petroleum is extracted off shore drilling, drilling in Canada's Arctic, and the oil sands of Alberta

Processing
Crude Oil is changed into other products throught processes called cracking and distillatoin which is puryfiying the oil by heating and cooling the oil. It is cracked
( broken into different petroleum products), the cracked oil than passes in to tall collums where a process seperates the lighter and hevier oils apart.

Waste Management and Reclamation
Facts
The petrochemical industry has been reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling waste into usable products for several decades. The industry has also worked to restore drilling sites to a natural state.
Coal is a fossil fuel formed millions of years ago from decayed vegetation. Canada has substantial coal deposits, 98% of which are in Western and Northern regions far from our countries major markets.
Solar energy is made from sunlight
Solar energy these days are used to create energy.
Solar energy only provides a small amount of the worlds energy supply.
Solar energy lights provide NO pollution
All solar lights are wireless.
Once installed the energy is free to use.
Solar energy can be used to heat pools, power cars, caculaters, and other small appliances.
Solar energy is becoming very popular to use.
Nearly half of Canada's coal is exported to Japan and South Korea. Currently coal is used mainly for generating electricity in thermal plants for making iron adns steel
Natural Gas
Natural gas is used primarily to heat buildings. Natural gas is different from the gas ( gasoline ) used in vehicles. Gasoline comes from petroleum (crude oil). Because gas is lighter than oil, it is usually found above the oil deposit. Natural gas must be processed to provide clean burning fuel. Processing, unfortunately, produces chemical emission such as sulphur dioxide and carbon dioxide. The production of greenhouse gases results.
