Specific Types of Jobs in the Field: -Automotive Industry
-Alternative Energy
-Automated Production Lines (Robotics)
Where are these Jobs Located?? Problems $alaries: (as of 2012)

Average: 90% made at least:
National: $82,480 $50,550
CT: $80,350 $54,910
MA: $86,210 $56,110 Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineer: One who plans, designs, and creates tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment Degrees Necessary for these Jobs: - Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering (typically 4 years at a standard ABET accredited college)

- Mechanical engineer managers need a Masters Degree and a degree from an accredited program, as well as 4 years of relevant work experience. They must pass a state exam for a license (required in all states) if they sell services publicly. Job Outlook (in the US)

Projected job openings for 2008-2018: 75,700

Projected growth for 2010-2020 (according to the Bureau of Labor): 9%

Mechanical engineers going into jobs with alternative energy or advanced technology are predicted to have the best employment opportunities. A prototype of a race car going along a straight track is programmed to speed up from rest and decelerates after it crosses the finish line. The rate of its velocity during the car's journey is given by r(t)=(-.35x^3)+(4.2x^2)-.10x. Find how far it traveled in the time it took to get to the finish line (in meters). If the finish line is 50 meters away, is the prototype effective? If not, think about what can be done to improve it. A machine can make x type 1 wheels and y type 2 wheels a day. The profit on type 2 is 1.55 times type 1, and
y= (.5x^3)/3 - 6x^2 + 77.5x. How many of each should be made to maximize the profit? -Mechanical engineers typically begin in an office. They meet with other engineer, marketing, sales, and executive professionals to begin a project.
-Mechanical engineers do computer-aided drafting (CAD) to design a product or device.
-Next, they create and test prototypes. Revisions are made until the final product is ready to be produced.
-Mechanical engineers originally oversee the production team to give support or instruction during the manufacturing process.
-Finally, they work in the field to make sure their device is installed properly and run final tests. -Military Weapons
-Materials Science
-Nanotechnology The Daily Life of a Mechie: Some Companies that use Mechanical Engineers: United Technologies Corp., Glen Magnetics Inc., Ebm-Papst, Sikorsky, Boeing Co., General Motors, Ford, Sun Products, Beardsworth Group, Chrysler, Boston Dynamics, Apple, Microsoft, NASA, Byrnes & Rupkey, Inc., Whirlpool, Technipower Citations: http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes172141.htm
