Parallel Circuits
Introduction
A parallel circuit is a circuit that has two or
more paths (or branches) for current flow
Parallel Circuit Calculations
Parallel circuit branches are independent
of each other
Example 1:
Calculate:
total resistance
individual currents
total current
Example 2:
Example 3
Find the total resistance of the circuit.
Given the circuit shown:
a. Find the total resistance, Rtot.
b. Find the total current, Itot.
c. Find voltage across each resistor.
d. Find the current through each
resistor.
Power Calculations in Parallel Circuits
PT= VT x IT
PT=P1+P2+P3
Kirchhoff's Current Law
I1+I2+I3+I4=0
Example 4
If I1=900mA, I2=-600mA, and
I3=600mA,
What is I4?
Exercise :
In the circuit diagram
shown , find the total
current I.
