Conflict There is internal and external conflict because the house doesn't know that there isn't no one else living and yet it's still doing its normal routine. Its also having an external conflict because as the house is burning, the house cant decide whether to let itself die or keep trying to take down the flames. Elements of Fiction in
Ray Bradbury's
There Will Be Soft Rains Characters Main Character(s): The house Setting The setting is in August of 2026 in the ruins of Allendale, California. The story begins as an ordinary day just in the future. The story is wrapped around a house who is left standing after a nuclear bomb went off and destroyed everything except for this one house and the only thing destroyed on this house is the side wall with silhouettes with the family who past away that lived there. Themes The theme of this text is that technology will overpower people by killing them (talking about bomb) and how nature will always overpower technology because technology doesn't compare to what nature can do and that nature is more dominant than any other thing living on earth. The house goes through its normal routine even though the humans aren't there. The house is keeping its peace and not allowing anything to get near it, not even a bird. The story takes place in the future
in August of 2026 and it starts as
an ordinary day like a normal
family would and the story
portrays as a nuclear bomb as went
off and destroyed everyone and everything except this one house and on the side of the wall is silhouettes of a family who used to live there and who died. The house begans to die and a fallen tree crashed int o the house catching the house on fire from the lighted stove and house tries to save the house but has gotten overcome by the fire and began to go awol. Plot Chart of There Will Be Soft Rains The fire began to die down the house and the house goes psychopathic and house is burning down. The house has burned down except for one wall faintly in the east with the wall faintly saying over and over again in repition," Today 5, 2026, today is August 5, 2026, today is...." The house is a main character. The back-up characters are tiny robot mice and the dog. Their static because they do not undergo any change in the story because they isn't no change in between these characters. In the story, the characters is stuck on one thing and one thing only. The only thing that changes in the story that the characters undergo a change is when the house is burning down at the climax of the story. Point of View The story is opposed in third person. I say this because its stating people or things/ objects as the, it , etc. An example would be, "It repeated the date three times for memory's sake."
