Table Etiquette Etiquette Unfold tour napkin on your lap
Sit up straight when you eat
If you're about to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or napkin
Cut food in manageable pieces as you eat it
Don't talk with food in your mouth
Use a toothpick in privacy
Never comb your hair or apply makeup at the table
Wait for others to finish before leaving the table. Etiquette for Guest If there are six or fewer people at the table, wait until everyone is served before you begin to eat
If you're not sure how to eat a food or which flatware to use, follow the lead of your host
Try to eat at the same pace as your companions
If you can't eat a food that is being passed to you, just simply pass it to the next person
Before taking the last serving of food, ask whether anyone else would like it
if your spill anything clean it up
Don't feed pets from the table Big No-No's do not tell your host that you don't like the food being served
do not slurp your spaghetti into your mouth and don't spray everyone with your sauce
do not blow or pick your nose at the dinning room table
do not touch every piece of bread in the bread bowl before you choose your piece of bread
do not pick up your phone and answer it while eating with others
do not hold your fork and knife like a caveman
