Plastic
Plastic Awareness
Toxic chemicals added to plastic are absorbed by human bodies
Mainly
PVC
(Polyvinyl Chloride) and
BPA
(Bisphenol A)
Studies have shown that:

Plastic made with
PVC
- Decreases lung function, sperm count and increases weight gain and resistance to insulin.

Plastic made with
BPA
- Increase diabetes, heart disease and liver enzymes

In
women
: increase rates of miscarriage, PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome), infertility, baldness, and ovarian cysts.

Children
: Baby bottles found with BPA have been banned in the U.S. by the FDA in 2012 due to its negative effects on infants - endocrine disruptor affecting mood, growth and development.
1. Expanding manufacturing industry
2. Construction Projects
3.
Growing Road Congestion
4. Rise in airport traffic
5.
Waste management
- Landfills and the sea.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Why is it important to recycle plastic?
Non-biodegradable
Its
misuse
has caused lots of damage to:
Animals
Marine Mammals (Entanglement & Plastic indigestion)
Saves Landfill space
Reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions
Paper

Why is it important to recycle
Paper?
Saves
trees
Saves
energy

Reduces

green house
emissions
Keeps landfill space free for other types of trash that cannot be recycled

Did you know?
Recycling
one ton of paper can save:

17 trees
7,000 gallons of water
380 gallons of oil
3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
4000 kilowatts of energy = power to a home for 6 months
Reduce green house emissions!
What about Aluminum
?

Saves
energy
Saves
natural resources

Saves
landfills

Requires
95% less energy
and produces
95% fewer greenhouse gas emissions
, than manufacturing primary aluminum.

Recycling 1 ton of aluminum avoids the emission of about 9 tons of CO2 emissions

This is equivalent to taking
900,000 cars off the road for 12 months.
