The Epipelagic zone is also called the Sunlight zone or Euphotic zone!
The Sunlight zone is on the very top of the ocean. It goes from 0 meters below sea level to 200 meters below!
TEMPERATURE & SUNLIGHT
The average temperature of the Epipelagic zone goes from 27 to 104 degrees F. It gets a ton of sunlight!
BLUE RINGED OCTOPUS
The blue ringed octopus is a small consumer that eats mostly crabs and shrimp. It is about 8 inches long. As you can see, it is sand colored with blue rings. It has enough venom to kill 30 humans and crawls along the ocean floor!
The Loggerhead Turtle is a consumer that mostly eats meat. Its size ranges from 2 to 6 feet. Its colors are mostly green, brown and black. The Loggerhead Turtles cold-blooded animals with four flippers and a shell. It moves by flapping its flippers. They have to go to the surface to breathe.
The sea cow or manatee is a massive herbivore. It was once hunted for its fat. Its color is a natural gray and brown. The average size is 12 feet long. It swims by flapping its giant flat tail. Its average speed is 2 miles per hour, but it can swim in short bursts of 20 miles per hour. It has no real predators except red tides. The main diet of the sea cow is sea plants.
