Streptococcus (Strep Throat) By: Alyssa Johnson hr. 4 Streptococcus- Strep throat -Strep throat is caused by streptococcal (strep) bacteria, most often by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus (GABS).

-Other types of strep that can sometimes infect the throat are groups C and G strep bacteria.

-A strep infection causes the throat (pharynx) and the tonsils or adenoids to become irritated, inflamed, and painful. What is the cause of strep throat? -Anybody can get strep throat, but it's most common in school-age kids and teens.

-These infections occur most often during the school year.

-Is extremly uncommon for a baby to get strep throat. What is the age group of people who can get strep throat? -Anton van Leeuwenhoek, a scientist and microbiologist from Holland, discovered strep throat.

-He was born on October 24th, 1632. He didn’t have any scientific education or background and started his career in a basket shop.

-In his work, microscopic glasses were used to count the threads of a basket and this was how he developed an interest on microscopes. The history of Strep throat. -Strep throat is a an infection of the oral pharynx and tonsils. -Strep throat is very common among kids and teens. It usually requires treatment with antibiotics, but improves in a few days. -Common symptoms of strep throat in children and adults are coughing, sneezing, or other cold like symptoms. Symptoms of Strep Throat -red and white patches in the throat
-difficulty swallowing
-tender or swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
-red and enlarged tonsils
-headache
-lower stomach pain
-fever
-general discomfort, uneasiness, or ill feeling
-loss of appetite and nausea
-rash Pictures How does strep throat affect your body? -Adults whose immune systems have been weakened by stress or other infections are at risk.

-Most sore throats are associated with viral infections such as the common cold or the flu.

-Many people carry Streptococcus pyogenes in their systems without even knowing it. Who does strep throat affect a person's daily life? -When you have strep throat it is usually difficult to swallow.

-You can get a fever which will make you not feel well.

-Strep throat was affect your way also because you
might get a headache. How can you prevent strep throat? -Strep throat is hard to avoid, however, there are ways you can help prevent it.

- One way you can hep prevent strep throat is to wash your hands a lot.
