The Solar System This resource is an interactive tool that allows the students to explore each component of the solar system. This video provides general information about each componet of the solar system. Essential Standard:
3.E.1 Recognize the major components and patterns
observed in the earth/moon/sun system.

Clarifying Objectives:

3.E.1.1 Recognize that the earth is part of a
system called the solar system that
includes the sun (a star), planets, and
many moons and the earth is the third
planet from the sun in our solar

and direction of an object’s shadow
indicate the apparent changing
position of the Sun during the day
although the patterns of the stars in
the sky, to include the Sun, stay the
same. I would like to begin by stating that text sets was something that I was not familiar with before completing this assignment. However when first going through the PowerPoint I immediately knew I was very excited to begin the research for this assignment. I absolutely loved the fact that this was a way for students to explore a topic through text of all levels, media, ect and gain new knowledge through shared talk. I’m a teacher’s assistant in a third grade classroom and the students in my classroom will begin exploring the solar system and it components next week. I was able to share this research with the teacher I work with for ideas with our students. I felt that if I was teaching this lesson on this topic I would want to offer several resources such as fictions book, non- fiction books, poems, eBooks and educational videos that will allow the students to explore this topic from the smart board. This is an awesome interactive tool came from the soft school website that allows the student to click on different components of the solar system and ask questions about that particular component. This website also offered quizzes, videos, and other games pertaining to the solar system. The great thing about this resource is that you can choose the grade level of your students to determine the extent of the questions. Seymour, Simon. The Sun. HarperCollins: Print. Seymour, Simon.
