Fort Recovery Monument By: Briget The cost of the Fort Recovery Monument was $23,700. It is estimated that there are 800 tons of material in this monument. It is thought that the monument was designed by William B. Van Amringe. Work on the monument began early in 1912. There are two bases between the terrace platform and the base of the granite shaft proper. The square of the lower of the two bases is 18' 8". If you want to contact the Fort Recovery State Museum... Fort Recovery, OH 45846 In 1908, President William Howard Taft signed a bill authorizing the erection of a monument on the battlefield of Fort Recovery honoring the soldiers dead of General Arthur St. Clair's and General Anthony Wayne's armies. The memorial was dedicated on July 1st, 1913.
