Transcript of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl

Me and Earl and the Dying girl is a book about a boy named Greg and his senior year of high school. Greg spends most of his time trying to talk to nobody and blend into crowds with his friend Earl, who he makes dumb parodies of famous movies with. However Greg's world is turned around when his mom forces him to befriend a girl with leukemia named Rachael. At first, Greg doesn't like this because it affects his ability to blend in with crowds at school, but he soon learns that he can make a difference in Rachael's life, so they become friends. Now, Greg spends most of his time with Rachael trying to cheer her up. However, the further time passes on, the more ill Rachael becomes, and Greg can no longer make Rachael laugh. What will Greg do? Read Me and Earl and the Dying Girl to find out.
Setting & Genre
This book takes place in the present . Most of the time, the book takes place at either a school or at Greg's house.
Figurative Language
"A person's life is like a big weird ecosystem." p.199
I liked this book a lot. I give it five stars.
POV and theme
This book is first person. "So I guess we should start with the first day of senior year."
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
by Jesse Andrews
"So in order to understand everything that happened, you have to understand that high school sucks."
This book is realistic fiction.
The protagonist
of the story is
Greg. He is the
narrator of the
book, and he is
the main
character. He
is in high school
and has a friend
named Earl.
The antagonist
of this story is
leukemia. Once
a friend of Greg's
gets it, it messes
up his life.
I think the theme of this book is that
even if you have it tough, someone
always has it tougher.
This book talks about mature topics and
swears often. I would recommend it for
mature readers 13+.
