Laos under French influence
Viet Minh infiltrated much of Laos, undermining the authority of the Loas (and therefore French) government
French established a major force in Dien Bien Phu, hoping to cut supply lines to Giap's men in Laos
French thought that having a trained and large force in the heartland of the Viet Minh would deter their activity
By 1950, there were over 350,000 Viet Minh led by General Vo Nguyen Giap
Dien Bien Phu was at the bottom of a valley surrounded by land controlled by Giap's men

North= irresponsible, unreliable
feels cheated, swindled because they got "screwed over" "All's fair in love and war"
Smart to strike when opponent is defenseless Causation of Indochina Wars Vietnamization Unstable Free Democratic
to Communist
Government <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e0/French_Indochina_expansion.jpg/220px-French_Indochina_expansion.jpg> First Indochina War Vietnam War Political/
Economics: Imperialism: Economic: Communist form of government yes or no French taking all land
Viets to poverty N. Viets wanting united communist country
So take over of S. Vietnam Trusting the words of the enemy Led to occupation of Hue meaning closure of buildings like hospital
Many deaths due to not getting treatment
Civilians escaping the area Problems of an Alliance Americans in an alliance with S. Vietnamese
means coming to the aid of each other
needed tight+rigid fire control since they are on South Vietnam land there was a problem of not killing civilians esp. when the enemy dressed like a civilian Ending of Tet Offensive Communist defeat
Vietnamization begins What it is: U.S leaving paying for Conflict to S. Vietnam's gov/ U.S departure in Vietnam South Vietnamese View: U.S to blame for not keeping promise
inhuman, not trustworthy, unreliable
Similar on how the North Vietnamese viewed the U.S which were devils
Reason why United States and Vietnam cut ties for about 20 years after conflict End of War With Americans gone South is defenseless
Saigon April 27th-29th, 1975 North attack
April 30th South Vietnamese government formally surrendered French Comparision to Americans Personal Thinking: South Viets were being too dependent on U.S
consequence of relying on/trusting another nation, that should have been learned from the Tet Offensive Agreement towards the Vietnam War Background Info

Didn't want Communist Government for Vietnam/or to loose the land, but cause of the cost of war (economic factor) they couldn't achieve that
Though not so much for French Their defeats factor(s): What that means: South Vietnam: Bao Dai led government first to be rid of in 1955
President Thieu= the one that surrendered stating United States as un-trustworthy United States: Provided S. Vietnam Military and financial aid Retreat of one led to peace between the nations Basic info: Results: By the use conventional military tactics, French were defeated.
Viet Minh captured 11,721 men.
Viets' casualties: 8,000 dead, 12,000 wounded.
Battle and Other factors Brought: French surrender
According to Geneva Accords of 1954 Conflict between the two nations ended
Accords divided the countries at the 17th parallel
Migration of people to south (Catholics+French supporters/speakers) Geneva Accords dividing the countries at the 17th: North now the Democratic Republic of Vietnam
Government: Communism
South now the Republic of Vietnam
Government: Non-Communist
United States: Aiding South Vietnam South Before: Gov. prioritize the common people's interest South After: Now Gov. prioritize the equality of the class
If the common people's interest is something endangering the equality then they don't get their say Generalization: The main causation of International Conflicts: Political/Economics Ideology The nations balanced their wants to the realities: Poorly. Example French and United States greed made them ignorant of somethings. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gs_rn=7&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=JNIF1G2PoQ5smCXs1XksXQ&cp=8&gs_id=18&xhr=t&q=vietnam+war&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44442042,d.cGE&biw=1366&bih=635&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=IkBZUb6TNsfxiwKxkoCwDQ#imgrc=J82AClX6okBRfM%3A%3BtDTxWCXlgrDjOM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.english-online.at%252Fhistory%252Fvietnam-war%252Fvietnam-war-protest.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.english-online.at%252Fhistory%252Fvietnam-war%252Fvietnam-war-background.htm%3B475%3B362 Civilians Protest the Vietnam War http://www.archives.com/genealogy/newspaper-genealogy-vietnam-war.html
