1 Border Collie (smartest) 100 Dogs, Smartest to Dumbest How can we as students learn about, celebrate, and love dogs? 5 Basic Breeds Boston Terrier Beagle Maltese Afghan Hound Border Collie Boston Terriers are known as the "American Gentleman" and the "Boston Bull". Boston Terriers are said to be one of the best house pet dog breeds in the world. Boston terriers are surprisingly a mixed breed between the English Terrier and the English Bulldog. (You would think it would be a Boston Bulldog but when the colonists separated from England, they took their dogs to Boston.) This mixed breed was named the Boston Terrier in 1891. Fun Fact:The Governor of Massachusetts Edward King made the Boston terrier the state dog in 1979. Border Collies are known as true shepherd dogs. There roots go all the way to Scotland and England. They make very good pets for people who love to work. In fact, they are so ment for working, there breeding is strictly to make a good working dogs. Don't even worry about them being unhappy with working, most people say Border Collies are happiest when working. Just don't leave them lying around for to long. Border Collies can get destructive or neurotic when too bored. Malteses are small dogs with long fur that can be tied back or cut. Centuries ago, this dog was the prime choice for aristocrats and noble women. Even today these dogs are beloved in America. Even though there are theories, the origin of the Maltese is unknown. However, "similar dogs " have been dated back as far as 500 B.C. If you don't know what dog to get, you can never go wrong with a good old beagle. People believe that the name beagle comes from the french term "be'geule" that refers to the howls of the hounds as they go after their master’s targets. Beagles are even traced back to ancient Greece. Beagles were also great hunting dogs to Englishmen. They can be mischievous and are often lead to trouble (garbage cans, shoes, dirty laundry) by their extraordinary hunting noses. Their natural curiosity often means they are a little tricky to train and require owners who are willing to be firm yet patient. Puppy Pictures Afghan Hounds may look like a pretty dogs, but they can tackle leopards if they get the chance. In fact, due to its lightening-fast speed and seemingly effortless agility, the Afghan hound was at one time used by the Afghan tribes to catch gazelles, deer and, yes, even leopards. The Afghan hound is of the oldest sight hound breeds. In fact, genetic testing traces the breed back to the wolf with very little genetic divergence, meaning the Afghan hound descended from some of the oldest-known dog breeds. BUDDY!!!! Now take it away Buddy!
