PowerPoint!!!! Coal is a nonrenewable energy source Advantages/
Disadvantages **OIL** Oil comes from rocks under the seabed.
"rock oil" is what the Latin word petroleum
stands for. Oil is used to make things like
diesel, gas,or fuel oil. Oil is pretty much used all day every day. This fossil fuel is highly flammable , even in its base form. Billions of dollars are spent every year looking for other forms of oil. Advantages
/Disadvantages **NATURAL GAS** Natural gas is a fossil fuel that comes from decayed plant&animal matter that has been subjected to immense pressure under the earths crust over millions of years. Natural gas is often used for heating and/or cooking. Also there are some vehicles that are powered by natural gas . We use this resource very often. This is because everyone cooks on their stoves with natural gas and people use it often as a heating source. Advantages/
Disadvantages Some advantages for natural gas are that natural gas burns clearer than other fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Natural gas also produces 70% less carbon dioxide compared to other fossil fuels. Also due to the clean burning process, natural gas doesn't leave residues like soot or ash. Natural gas is non-toxic and isn't poison to humans if we were to inhale it in small amounts. ***COAL*** **PROPANE** Advantages/

Disadvantages up in plants that once lived millions of years
ago (otherwise known as plant fossils). Coal
is processed by separating the coal from impurities such as rock and dirt. Coal is mainly used for electricity generation. Some
types of coal are things like"steam coal" which is used for power generation or metallurgical coal which is used for steel
production. that comes from the carbon atoms locked Some advantages for coal are that coal is that it can give us heat. Also, coal helps us create energy for our homes. compared to other fossil fuels coal is one of the least expensive. The energy produced from coal is very reliable and using coal reduces the dependance on using oil. Some disadvantages coal has are that it is nonrenewable. Coal isn't economically friendly and its fumes hurt the atmosphere. Also, there is the fact that the burning of coal by large-scale factories to power industry has led to acid rain in some places. coal mining can scar the landscape and the equipment is noisy so it'll effect local wildlife. Some advantages for oil are that its cleaner than most fossil fuels, and its easyer to burn.
Also, the electricity from oil is more reliable. Oil is easy to store. It is also easy to transport
between source and end user. Unlike Solar and Wind energy, oil can produce power 24/7. Oil has one of the highest energy densities, which means that a small amount of oil can produce a large amount of energy. Some disadvantages for oil are that it releases carbon dioxide into the air. Also because all the oil pollutes the water and kills lots of sea creatures and fish. Another disadvantage is that oil is drilled for in some of the worst dictatorships which can put our people in danger. lastly oil plants put out harmful substances such as sulfur dioxide. Some disadvantages for natural gas are that it is highly flammable and must be produced in highly managed circumstances. Natural gas is non-renewable and if we keep using it at the same rate we are then we will run out of it soon. Creating the pipelines used to transport natural gas can be costly.this type of gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, which can make finding leaks very hard. Propane comes from natural gas and petroleum deposits in rocks under ground. The petroleum is separated into its various products at a processing plant called a refinery. The U.S.A uses propane gas more than any other country in the world. It ranks as the 7nth most important energy source. Some advantages for propane are that it is a clean fuel. It can be environmentally friendly too. Propane costs half the price of electricity. We are not giving other country's our money when buying propane because it is an american made product. Propane is portable so it can be used anywhere. It burns clean and is easily stored in any size tanks. Nuclear energy comes from the nucleus of an atom. Naturally, nuclear energy comes from the heat and light made by the sun. man made machines called nuclear reactors are used to generate power form this energy source. We use this type of energy fairly often. Especially for bombs. Over 16% of the worlds electricity is produced by nuclear energy. Some advantages for nuclear energy are that it is efficient and has high energy generation from small amounts of fuel. Nuclear power is extremely reliable, and can operated cautiously. This resource has a good safety record. Nuclear energy is the worlds largest source of emission free energy. Some disadvantages for nuclear energy are that we are storing and managing radioactive waste. The cost to make nuclear plants are high and there is a possibility of an accident.
high level nuclear waste could last for thousands of years before being safe again. we
must overcome this before nuclear energy can truly expand. Wind energy is processed using wind turbines, which turns the
wind into energy. We use wind energy to make eco-friendly electricity. Wind energy is a renewable resource therefore it is safe and clean for us to use. This energy is used at an ok rate because some people use wind energy very often but others don't. For domestic users of wind power technology it might be possible to get a government grant to help pay toward the wind turbines. One of the main advantages for wind energy is that its a renewable form of energy that doesn't emit any harmful greenhouse gasses because no fossil fuels are being burned. Another advantage is that wind is abundant and is free of charge to use. Wind turbines don't require a large amount of space like power plants or mining areas. So you can put more turbines in one area. Wild life is also unharmed when using wind energy. Some disadvantages for wind energy are that wind is unpredictable and can fluctuate( rise and fall in number or amount) wildly. Also to create more energy we need more turbines which can take up lots of land. All of the wind turbines could lead to protests. Even though the source is free , what it takes to make the energy from the source can get costly. Solar energy comes from the suns rays. We use solar panels to convert the rays into electricity for many things. We mostly use solar energy for electricity. this energy source is used by millions and the numbers are still growing. Solar water heating is a popular way to save money on heating bills, and also the use of solar power is often generated by lightning. Some advantages for solar energy are that it is a renewable source of energy. Also solar energy is abundant. Another advantage is that producing solar power doesn't resolve in the destruction of natural habitats and environments. The sun is a free source that no one can try to keep to themselves. This resource involves no pollution when trying to harvest it. Solar energy also is produced silently compared to oil mining and coal drilling. Some disadvantages for solar energy are that to have solar energy we need sun; so we cant use this resource 24/7 like we can with other resources. The cost for purchasing and setting up a solar energy system(or solar panels) is very costly. this energy resource is unreliable because of the weather and what it does to the sun. this means its a bad idea to use this source in cooler climates. Hydro energy comes from the water. It is processed using regular water turbines. We convert water into energy that we use to run things.hydro energy is used very often. The country that uses this energy resource the most is Canada. We can also get more of this energy from waves. Some advantages for hydro energy are that it is abundant and very efficient. this energy source is renewable so we wont run out of this source any time soon. Another advantage is that this resource is free of cost to every one and its cheaper to use this method of energy conservation than most other methods. Hydro energy is reliable and can be used almost immediately when turned into electricity. Lastly hydro energy is clean and nontoxic.Once a dam is constructed, electricity can be produced at a constant rate.If electricity is not needed, the sluice gates can be shut, stopping electricity generation. The water can be saved for use another time when electricity demand is high. Some disadvantages for hydro energy is that it can sometimes change the natural flow of water. It can also damage areas in wildlife when creating a hydro electric dam. Dams are extremely expensive to build and must be built to a very high standard. The flooding of large areas of land means that the natural environment is destroyed. People living in villages and towns that are in the valley to be flooded, must move out. This means that they lose their farms and businesses. In some countries, people are forcibly removed so that hydro-power schemes can go ahead. Geothermal energy comes from the earth. The steam that comes from the core goes into a generator that turns it into energy that we can now use. We use geothermal energy pretty often in the u.s.a. "Geo" means earth and "thermal" means heat. When you drill underground for geothermal energy, every 100 meters you go below the crust the temperature of the rock increases about 3 degrees Celsius. Some advantages for geothermal energy are that its abundant so we wont get low on supply of heat. Also it is renewable so its never going to run out on us over time. Geothermal energy generally involves low running costs since it saves 80 percent costs over fossil fuels. This source of energy doesn't create and pollution toward the earth. Lastly dependance on fossil fuels lessen the more we use geothermal energy. Some disadvantages for geothermal energy are that you cant build a drilling plant just anywhere. the area must consist of suitable hot rocks. if the holes are drilled wrong, then dangerous gasses could leak to the surface and be harmful to us. Also, the heat is generated within the Earth by radioactive decay. Initial capital and installation costs are high but has potential long term savings compared to conventional heating and cooling systems. Biomass consists of all organic plants and animals on the planet that are currently living or have recently died. Biomass can be burned and turned into an energy source like gas or fuel. This energy source is used by many different country's, especially India. some different types of biomass are plants and crops, animal waste, industrial waste, and municipal waste. The biomass material from landfill sites can be used in order to harvest methane gas . Some advantages for biomass are that it is renewable and its also abundant. Due to the fact that biomass comes from unwanted waste it is usually very cheap. Power stations that burn fossil fuels can be easily modified to burn biomass material. If more biomass is used for energy reproduction then there will be less need ( and space) for landfill sites. Biomass can reduce waste energy by 25 to 66 percent. Some disadvantages for biomass are that there is only a certain amount of the source available at a time. Farmers who grow crops for biomass usage make more money than farmers who grow crops for us to eat.
Therefore all the farmers might try to switch to farming for biomass, which would cause a food shortage. Some forms of biomass can only be obtained at certain points of the year. This can limit the amount of material available at particular points in the year. Some disadvantages for propane are that you are carrying around a pressurized cylinder of flammable gas. Also propane is more expensive to operate by as much as 3-times the fuel consumption compared to diesels. Propane can blow up if improperly used.
