Transcript of Salvador Dali Prezi

Salvador Dali Born in 1904 in a small town in Northern Spain During his early 20s, studied art at the Royal Academy of Art Expelled twice, & never took his final examinations. He claimed that he was more qualified than those who should have examined him. 1928: Dali traveled to Paris where he met the Spanish painters, Pablo Picasso and John Miro After trying out Cubism, Futurism and Metaphysical painting, Dali established himself as a Surrealist artist. The surrealist theory is largely based on the theories of the psychologist Sigmund Freud who analyzed dreams as our connection with our subconscious. Dali's surrealist trademarks: burning giraffes, melting watches The Persistence of Memory Picasso Miro Burning Giraffes Temptation of St. Anthony Sleep Metamorphosis of Narcussus Dream caused by the flight of a bee around a Pomegranate Dali was known to be a very eccentric character and frequently succeeded in calling attention to himself He appeared at the opening of the London Surrealist exhibition in 1936 in a deep sea diving suit. However, his eccentricity that he displays in his art work is what makes him known to be one of the "greatest masters of art of the 20th century" And "the greatest artist of the Surrealist Art Movement" He was known to keep the pens of his fans after signing his autograph for them. Countless eccentric quirks that color his character and personality: He once appeared on the "Tonight Show" carrying a leather rhinocerous with him, and refused to sit on anything else. To ward off evil spirits, he carried a piece of lucky driftwood around. The surrealist cultural movement and artistic style was founded in 1924 by Andre Breton, a French writer and poet, who describes Surrealism as a means to reunite conscious and unconscious realms of experience so that the world of dream and fantasy would be joined to the everyday rational world in "absolute reality, a surreality" If that's not good enough for you, then here's another definition... Surrealism style uses visual imagery from the subconscious mind to create art without the intention of logical comprehensibility.
