The Evolution Of Lighting
The Many Different Sources Of Light
History Of Lighting
LED vs. Fluorescent
LED Bulb
The Fluorescent Bulb
Early Light
The fluorescent
light works by making ultraviolet light go through a phosphor.
The fluorescent rapidly starts so if the bulb doesn't start the first time, you don't have to start it yourself.
The sun developed the life on earth. Plants use sunlight to make energy and food. This is called photosynthesis.
There are many sources of light. Fire was one of the first sources of light ever discovered. Plants and animals, such as mushrooms, can also glow.
(Light Emitting Diode)
The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is very energy efficient. Only 10% of energy is used for heat, while 90% is used for light. The LED bulb pays for itself.
The LED is also healthier for our skin. This is due to the LED providing more natural light. The LED bulb also does not contain harmful toxins.
While a fluorescent light's
mortality rate is 50%, the LED bulb's is 0.5%. The LED bulb's life lasts about 50,000 hours. The fluorescent bulb's life lasts about 20,000 hours. The LED is probably a better light bulb.
Before lightbulbs, people used candles, oil lamps, or torches.
Thomas Edison invented the
Incandescent light bulb in
1880. A. E. Becquerel invented
the fluorescent in 1867.
Fluorescent bulbs are used everywhere today. The LED
was made in 1993 for blue
Savings With The LED
If 25% of the lighting fixtures
in the US changed to LED,
15 billion could be saved in
electricity bills.
While fluorescent bulbs are
cheaper, they cost more
over time. Fluorescent bulbs
are high maintenance, LED
bulbs are low. LED bulbs
are healthier and aren't harmful.
The LED can save money on energy from 40-90%.
