Global Warming - Honda FCX Clarity
Transcript of Global Warming - Honda FCX Clarity
This car really filters the atmosphere because all that comes out at the back of this car is water vapour. Instead of filling the tank with dirty fossil fuels like petrol, you would have to fill it with liquid hydrogen. The car has a generator on board to make electricity for the motor. This product should be marketed because it has the ability to change the future of motoring experience and global issues. The electric motor that sends out 134 horsepower (100 kW) and 189 lb·ft (256 N·m) of torque at 3056 rpm. The FCX Clarity averaged 71 miles per kilogram of hydrogen. Really good for the environment, and the owners. The FCX Clarity is about 4 inches shorter than a 2008 Honda Accord. It is about 190.3 inches long, 72.7 inches wide, and approximately 57.8 inches tall. ' With fuel prices rising and less fossil fuels day by day, this is a perfect car for the sustainability of the future. The vehicle is estimated to get about 77 miles (123.9 km) per kilogram of hydrogen in the city, while 67 miles (107.8 km) per kilogram highway. Hydrogen made from natural gas cost about $5 to $10 per kilogram in California. Cut View A hydrogen-fueling station The H2 ball-shaped hydrogen consumption gauge changes colour and size to reflect hydrogen consumption as driving conditions change. During high consumption, the ball becomes large and amber-coloured. As consumption decreases, it shrinks and turns yellow, then blue. The hydrogen fuel and battery gauges are to the right of the H2 ball-shaped meter. The fuel cell stack output gauge and battery output/charge display are on the outer perimeter. Nice place to be in.
Exciting to drive. The Honda V Flow FC Stack uses a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) electrical generation system that directly converts chemical energy produced in hydrogen-oxygen reactions into electrical energy. Several hundred cells are stacked together to form a fuel cell stack. As with batteries, these individual cells are connected in a series to produce a high voltage. There are many advantages of this car, one of it is that it is hydrogen powered, thus when it is burned it does not produce carbon dioxide, only water vapour. Hydrogen allows the car to go twice as more (distance wise) compared to a car traveling on gasoline, so you go more distances without the need of refueling. Some cars that are similar to the Honda FCX Clarity include the Chevrolet Equinox, and the BMW 745h. Many companies are now coming with prototypes because many people now want to be green. It is beneficial for all of us. We all can change the way we live. We still have time to change. There are more than a 1000 hydrogen-fueled cars on the roads today. This concludes our presentation for the Honda FCX Clarity, we hope this product can go on the market because it is a product capable of changing the world. We are in a state where the world is about to overheat because of the pollution we create. By reversing it and doing small things to help the earth, we have a chance of solving global warming. (rate 1 to 5) Results
(rate 1 to 5) Fuel Cell Durability and Reliability (environmental.)
•Fuel cell systems are not yet as durable as internal combustion engines, especially in some temperature and humidity ranges. On-board Hydrogen Storage (chemical.)
•This must be achieved in different makes and models without compromising customer expectations of space, performance, safety or cost. Vehicle Cost (societal)
•Currently same expense as any other conventional fossil-fuel combustion car. Though the price will decrease ones people start buying. Getting Hydrogen to Consumers (technological.)
•Moving Hydrogen is not your everyday system from a refinery to a local pump. 4 4 4 3 No Greenhouse Gas Emissions (environmental.)
•Fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) powered by pure hydrogen emit no CO2 from their tailpipe, only heat and water. Reduced Oil Dependence (societal.)
•Reduction can bring jobs within the country and would make our economy on other countries less vulnerable to oil price shocks. Efficiency (chemical.)
•Hydrogen has a higher energy density per unit mass than gasoline does. This means that hydrogen fuel cell cars would need much less fuel to travel greater distances than cars powered by gasoline. Sources (technological.)
•Hydrogen can come from many sources such as coal, oil, natural gas, biomass (i.e. livestock waste) and nature (i.e. water). Most of the earths hydrogen is combined with oxygen as well as water. Hydrogen also occurs frequently in combination with carbon in a large variety of organic compounds such as natural gases and all plants and animals. 5 5 5 4 Total 19 Honda FCX Clarity is a great car in its class. This car does not use any type of fossil fuels! It helps the environment by not producing any Greenhouse gases. 2H2 + O2 2H2O Reactants: Hydrogen Gas + Oxygen Gas Product: Di-hydrogen monoxide 2H2 + O2 2H2O In a synthesis reaction two or more chemical compounds combine to form a more complex product, just like this one. Word Equation: hydrogen + oxygen water Background Information
Honda has invested in the hydrogen fuel cell concept while other manufacturers have been developing technology that is closer to market, such as electric cars. There are various forecasts about the fuels and technologies that will power our cars between now and 2050, and they all agree that electric cars will start making a reasonable impact by around 2020, and hydrogen may become an important part of our motoring life between 2030 and 2050.
