About the Sport

Training

The game of curling is more than 500 years old.

  • Curling requires intense focus — something that only comes with experience, and it’s the reason curlers peak at a later age than many other sports.
  • At their home curling clubs, individual competitors will also train individually, often with a coach, five or six times per week topractice technique and directional control of the stone.
  • Competition are found at Scotland’s Paisley Abbey and date back to 1541.
  • Elite curlers are in the weight room year round, mostly working on strength for delivery technique, and for driving out of the hack fast and balanced.
  • During the off-season, 70 to 80 per cent of the year’s physical training occurs it is simply maintained during the competitive season when curling ramps up.
  • Curling of groups of people sliding stones on frozen ponds and lochs
  • The positions of a curling team hinges on the individual strengths and skills of the team members.

How It Work

  • The goal is to shoot the stones near the middle ring
