"The Interlopers" By: Saki

Setting:
Carpathian Mountains in Eastern Europe, in a thick, dense forest.
Rising Actiom/Conflict:
-Both men go into the woods to hunt game, but secretly hoping to find the other man.
-They run into each other face to face secretly deciding to kill each other or not.
-As they face each other the wind from a storm causes the tree to fall.
The conflict:
man vs. man: internal- in the beginning when they find each other they have to decide whether to kill the other or not.
External-the feud causes them to want to kill one another.
Theme, Irony, P.O.V:
-Theme: Resolve and forgive the people who wronged you before it turns into something ugly.
-Irony: They forgive each other, then the wolves come.
-P.O.V: 3rd Person Limited.

Tone, and Symbolism:
-Style: Imagery, dialect, and suspense.
Background- His real name was Hector Hugh Monroe, he was born in Burma, was sent to live with other family when his mom died. He adopted the name Saki as he started to write stories.
-Tone: Suspenseful.
-Symbolism: The feud pins both men down, as the tree pins them down .
-Georg Znaeym- Dynamic/round character.
-Ulrich Von Gradwitz- Dynamic/round character.


Characters:
-The tree collapses on both men, pinning them down. They both start to argue with one another about the land and who it truly belongs to.
-Ulrich pulls out his flask of wine, and asks Georg if he would like a drink of wine. As both men are pinned down the hatred of the feud dies down.

Resolution: The two men reconcile about the feud, and they begin to start a new friendship.
Falling Action/Resolution:
Style: Imagery, dialect, and suspense.
Background- His real name was Hector Hugh Monroe, he was born in Burma, was sent to live with other family when his mom died. He adopted the name Saki as he started to write stories.
Similarities and Differences: Saki ends his stories with cliff hangars, that are either funny or terrifying, he also uses suspense. Guy De Maupassant uses suspense, and has morals in his stories.
