Characteristics of Post Impressionism
Post Impressionism has similar characteristics as Impressionism.
Post Impressionism is identified by vibrant colors, thick paint application, real life subject matter, geometric shapes, and distortion of objects or figures for expressive effect.
like these two pics
The first group exhibition of the impressionists was 1873. At this exhibition they were dubbed with the name. The last exhibition was 1886. By this time, the original impressionist were breaking up, and the new movement began to sprout. The post impressionists period started around 1886 and to the early 1900s. The only original impressionist to continue the movement through most of his life was Claude Monet, the king pin of the movement. Post impressionists took the movement one step farther. Rather than do paintings exactly as they seen, they added more feeling in an attempt to convey emotions.
