Are permanent markers really permanent? Mary Rhea 7th grade John Roberts how permanent are permanent markers on different materials and how do they react to different solvents? The purpose of this experiment is to figure out what gets permanent marker out of different everyday materials. The question I'm answering in this experiment is Is there a way to get permanent marker out of everyday substances. The knowledge from this experiment will hopefully help people in finding out a way to remove permanent marker. I believe the bleach will remove the permanent marker from the t-shirt, the other solutions will have no affect. I believe the the bleach will remove the permanent marker from the carpet but cause it to fade, the other solutions will have no affect. I believe none of the solutions will affect the wood surface. I believe all of the solutions except the hairspray will affect the permanent marker on the carpet. source 1:http://www.brighthubeducation.com/middle.school-science-lessons/15 This website gave me good ideas on how to conduct the experiment. http://askthescientist.org/why-are-permanent-markers-permanent-theyre-scared-of-water/ this website helped me understand why permanent markers are permanent http://home.howstuffworks.com/how-to-get-permanent-marker-out-of-clothes.htm This website gave me ideas on how to remove permanent marker from clothes http://www.ehow.com/how_4842579_remove-permanent-marker-carpet.html This website gave me ideas on how to remove permanent marker from carpet. constants: permanent marker, scrub brush. independent variables: nail polish remover, alcohol, magic eraser, vinegar, bleach, soap, water, hairspray, toothpaste, dependent variables carpet, wood, shirt, plastic Materials one square of carpet, a board of wood, an old T-shirt, a piece of plastic, a bottle of nail polish remover, a bottle of rubbing alcohol, one Mr. Clean magic eraser (cut in to fours), a cup of vinegar, a cup of bleach, a bar of soap, a cup of water, a can of hairspray, a tube of white toothpaste, a pair of rubber gloves, a toothbrush, one permanent marker, a pencil, and a peice of paper.Full transcript
