The River Seine - SG + TS
The River Seine is the 3rd longest river in France! It is also one of the biggest attractions in Paris, with loads and loads of people visiting it each year!
The River Seine inherited its name from Sequana, the celtic deity inhabited its sacred source. Sequana is origianally represented as a graceful young woman standing on a boat.
The River Seine is a whopping 777km long! It's also 200m wide, and 5.7m deep! It's also 446m above sea level!
The River Seine is now a great tourist attraction, and has always been a beautiful thing to see. Raoul dufy, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley even made famous paintings of it!!!
There are more than 30 bridges over the River Seine, including ones outside the city!
Did You Know?
The water quality of the River Seine has been quite poor in the past, but in recent years it has improved, and Atlantic salmon have returned to the river!
The ashes of Joan of Arc were scattered in the Seine at Rouen!
