Simulation: Recreation of an event to allows students to experience the issue directly.
High School Students studying Statistics
Discover the meaning of Expected Value through simulation.
Simulation is normally engaging and allows for learning through discovery associated with the activity.
Engaging, Highly Interactive, is a catalyst for ownership of the lesson by students.
Students may lose focus, some instructors may not be comfortable with allowing students to go through the exercise and discovery process.

Educational Approaches
Think, Pair, Share: Students think individually, then pair (discuss with partner), then share ideas with class.
High School Students studying Statistics
Explain what random means mathematically, and how this relates to the mean of a distribution.
Allows students to communicate and exchange mathematical ideas and gain insight into their specific level of understanding.
Peer focused, students can scaffold one another and collaborate to gain a better understanding of the concepts.
Students can get off-task, may not have full understanding even after collaboration, a bit more demanding on the instructor to guide discussions
Enrichment
- Providing specific material in a topic of interest.
Provide “additional levels of depth” for the student to discover, while still working within a guided framework.
Include hooks to tangential material to provide increased relevance and “big picture” connections.
