By: Gabriela Rico Are gay people born gay or is it environmental ? Innate or Choice? Purpose What does it mean when someone is gay? The purpose of my project is prove if gay people are born gay or is it environmental. It means that that person is attracted in a physically and emotionally way to a member from the same sex.“gay” and “lesbian” are used to refer to homosexual men and women Description Nature or Nurture? Expectations My expectation is to find out if being gay is innate or a choice? Male homosexuals= "gays
female homosexuals= "lesbians" Resources http://www.avert.org/apps/media_gallery/files/images/1623/gay-male-symbol-and-lesbian-female-symbol-web.jpg Pictures Information What causes it? No one knows why some people are homosexual. Some people who study human sexuality believe that sexuality is a result of genetics, social or individual factors, alone or in combination Is homosexuality a disease? No, homosexuality is not a disease nor a mental disorder according to American Psychological Association (APA) and other organizations. Although it is not a disease homosexuals have a higher risk in STD, HIV,and AIDS http://familydoctor.org/familydoctor/en/teens/puberty-sexuality/homosexuality-facts-for-teens.html Are there treatments/cures? There are no treatments or cures because its not a disease! But some people think that religion and therapy is the solution. How does this relate to me? This relates to me because I have an uncle who is gay. My family had a hard time understanding what exactly did that me. 1. At what age did you first have an idea that you were gay?
“I had an idea that I was gay … around 8”
2. How hard was it for you to come to terms that you liked men?
“It was very hard because I was raised in religious family. My parents take Christianity very serious
3. How long after did you feel comfortable about coming out?
“I was in like 6th or 7th grade”

4. Who did you come out to first? Why that person?
“It was my best friend Leslie who is still my friend today. I told her because… it just got to the point where I need to let it out and release all of these emotions that no one knew about. I told her because she was the only person I trust at the time”

5. Do you think that you were born gay?
“Yes, because it was something I had didn’t want to happen … it just happened.”

6. Are you a religious person?
“Yes, because I was raised with those beliefs. I believe God made me this way.”

7. What types of discrimination have you experiences because you are a gay male?
“I was called a “fag” from middle to high school several times. But the worst experience was when I got beat up, it hurt not because of the scars and burses they left me, but because it was my own brothers that beat me up.”

8. Why do you think so many people are opposed to same sex relationships?
“I personally think mostly because of religion. But there are also people that are just closed minded and ignorant”

9. What would you say to those who say what your feelings are wrong?
“You have your life and I have mind, so let me live mind’

10. Did you experience any obstacles because of your sexuality and if so, how did you overcome them?
“The biggest obstacle was… letting my parents know and getting their acceptation. At first they didn’t accept it; they said that it was a demon that I was living in sin. But I gave them have some time and they eventually ended up accepting it.”

Interview -Leonardo G. The answer to my project is although conservatives argue that homosexuality is a personal choice or the result of environmental influences. I personally think its genetic because alot of gay people feel that way. Its a choice when they decide to live it openly. Video www.youtube.com/watch?v=S14VRjVDPcs http://www.avert.org/being-gay.htm What did you learn during this project? I learned that gay people go though alot in their lives. Homosexuals, gays, lesbians, transgenders, heterosexuals and etc. we are all the same. But most important we are all HUMANS!! Advice for people My advice would be to not discriminate homosexuals. They are humans, just with different sexual choices.
