Transcript of Our Emotions and Our Character

The Four Elements in Establishing Headship Over Our Emotions
Do the RIGHT and LOVING response in every situation.

Aggressively exercise authority as a son or daughter of God to bring order into our emotional life.

Develop a set of strong, committed relationships as the context for personal Christian living.

Yield more fully to the Holy Spirit and expect Him to transform us and our feelings.
Emotions Guided by the Holy Spirit
We do have the choice as to how to handle our emotions, to simply react, or to respond. The devil will always deceive us to believe that we cannot overcome our feelings; that we will always be under the control of our emotions. God has already given you the power which can overcome all the negative things that comes your way. We need to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit.

Two Wrong Attitudes Held About Emotions
Emotions, especially negative ones, are our ENEMIES.

The Right Attitude Towards Emotions
Emotions are God-given and are good. They are designed for our benefit.
Distinguish between a REACTION to a given situation and a RESPONSE to that situation.
Awareness is key in knowing how to handle our emotions.
Emotions should be our servants. They should support us in righteous living. They should lead us closer to God.
We all have them and they are here to stay.
You can either lie about them or ignore them, or you can establish headship over them through the power of the Holy Spirit.
In this way, we are able to use our feelings to bring out the best in our character and to move us to love God and others more.
