Scripture Reading
Ephesians 5: 15-20.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Word of the Lord.

Response: Thanks be to God.

Second Reading
"Be Grateful"
By: Edgar Guest

Be grateful for the kindly friends that walk along your way;
Be grateful for the skies of blue that smile from day to day;
Be grateful for the health you own, the work you find to do,
For round about you there are men less fortunate than you.

Be grateful for the growing trees, the roses soon to bloom,
The tenderness of kindly hearts that shared your days of gloom;
Be grateful for the morning dew, the grass beneath your feet,
The soft caresses of your babes and all their laughter sweet.

Acquire the grateful habit, learn to see how blest you are,
How much there is to gladden life, how little life to mar!
And what if rain shall fall today and you with grief are sad;
Be grateful that you can recall the joys that you have had.

Rhetorical Questions
Question 1: Do you feel like you thank the Lord enough for everything he has done for you? How can you express your gratitude towards the Lord more often?

Question 2: Why do you think an abundant amount of people struggle with expressing their gratitude towards others’ good deeds?

Question 3: What are some ways that you can show your appreciation and gratitude towards someone?

Dear Lord, we come to you in order to express our everlasting gratitude for the gift of life that you have blessed us with. We express gratitude and thanks for the amazing people who are part of our lives and the necessities that we are provided with daily. We are thankful you protect us from danger and that you always shelter us from evil. Thank you, Lord, for always leading us down the right path in life. The fact that you are always able to help us get through rough times leaves us filled with gratitude. We thank you for bestowing love throughout all of our lives. The love you provide us with brings new hope into the world. We thank you for helping us remain faithful and for forcing us to prove our faith by the beauty and grace we bring into the world. We pray, Lord, that you remind us of just how lucky we are, and that you never allow us to forget to show our gratitude in prayer and returned kind acts.

Prayer Service: Gratitude
Opening Prayer
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

For remembering to always give thanks for whatever love and kindness we receive from the loving people that are always by our side, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

For having gratitude for a fantastic first semester and that all the students and faculty at Mount Carmel continue to have a great school year, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

For having gratitude for the little gifts that God grants us and not just the big things, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

Petitions (Con.)
For being thankful that the Lord provides us with the shelter, food, and necessities that we need to live, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

For those who struggle with showing their appreciation toward the other good deeds that people may undertake, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

For the people who are homeless and are living in the cold weather during the winter, we pray to the Lord:
Lord, hear our prayer.

Lord, we lift these intentions and the ones that we hold in the silence of our hearts up to You, as we know You are always listening, and that you will never abandon us. We have gratitude for the fact that you are able to give us so many blessings throughout our lives. We ask for the prayers of Mary, as we pray…
*Hail Mary*

"Thank You"
By: The Katinas
Closing Prayer
Lord, we thank You with all of the gratitude stored in our hearts for all the benefits which You have provided us. Everyday, our hearts are grateful and brim with thanks. A thousand books could be written, but still wouldn’t be enough to describe the breathtaking blessings that we have been given and are forever thankful for. We are hopeful for the future that lies ahead of each and everyone of us. May we grow to know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. We are thankful that You always give the ability to recognize the miracles and gifts we are blessed with, and we pray that You continue to do so. May everyone in this room awake every morning with a “thank you” lingering on our lips. God, we praise you and look forward to the surprises that you may bring to our future, and we will continue to praise and give never-ending thanks to you, Almighty Father. In your name we pray, Amen.
