West Coast Hip Hop/Rap Kendrick Lamar Kendrick Lamar is a american hip hop artist from Compton, California Initially signed to an idependent record label called Top Dawg Entertainment, in 2012 Lamar and the label signed a joint venture deal with Aftermath and Interscope Records. Kendrick Lamar Through the years, Aftermath has released albums from Eminem, 50 Cent, the Game, Busta Rhymes and a few others. But artists like Joell Ortiz, Bishop Lamont and Stat Quo have never seen an Aftermath release. Even the iconic Rakim couldn't come up with the right material suitable for Dr. Dre to launch. Dre's own Detox has sat in limbo for over 10 years, so when he gave Kendrick the thumbs up, it let the young Compton rapper know that he had something special on his hands. Aftermath Records After Kendrick Lamar's fourth mix tape Overly dedicated in 2010 he then became more popular in the mainstream media, he them released his first studio album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City which was produced by Dr.Dre the The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 242,000 copies in its first week – earning the highest first-week hip hop album sales of 2012 from a male artist, along with the best-selling debut from a male artist of the year. Kendrick Lamar's claim to fame Kendrick was heavily influenced by Dr. Dre and helped him get his rapping career started. Kendrick Lamar was interviewed and had said that Dr. Dre gave Kendrick Lamar 'All The Confidence In The World'.
