The green column is relevant to the ESF quad. Soil Characteristics Suitable Plants for the Quad Indian Bean Tree This tree grows well in moist, loamy soils, but is not salt tolerant. It likes a pH of ~7 and has a rapid growth rate. Box Elder This tree grows well in a wide range of pH values and is salt tolerant. It also has a high growth rate. Credits Yellow Birch This tree has a large pH tolerance and a medium salt tolerance. It is slow growing and can handle cold temperatures. The plants selected for the ESF quad are able to grow in the conditions that are already present--including loamy, alkaline soil. There are many factors that contribute to the types of plants that can be implemented on the ESF quad. Soil data retrieved from professors Russel Briggs and Tim Toland can be used to infer what types of vegetation will grow best under under our quad's specific conditions. A-horizon thickness; percentage of sand, silt, and clay; available water; bulk density; and pH were all considered in this analysis.
