Eve Arnold Photography Havana, Cuba 1954 "If the photographer is interested in the people in front of his lens, and if he is compassionate, it's already a lot. The instrument is not the camera but the photographer". - Eve Arnold Marilyn Monroe Eve Arnold tells Don Swaim in an interview that she had first met Marilyn during a party. Monroe had seen some of Eve's work and was very impressed. Monroe had told Eve she wanted to pose for her, it turned into 6 sessions of the course of 10 years. The shortest photo shoot was two hours long. Eve Arnold was one of the many reasons why Marilyn is so famous. Biography In 1946 Eve Arnold became a photographer
while working in a photo finishing plant in New
York city She was based in America during the 1950s and came to England in 1962 to put her son to school at Bedales. Following her photography of China, she had her first major solo exhibition of her China work at the Brooklyn Museum in 1980. Photography in China " I found myself in the privileged position of photographing somebody who I had first thought had a gift for the camera, but who turned out had a genius for it."
