Transcript of Vietnam war

Vietnam war Who participated? 1945-1949 Japan withdrew, and Ho’s forces rose up immediately and declared a Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV).
France, with Bao in the lead, wanted to regain the control, so in 1949 they set up the state of Vietnam (South Vietnam).
The armed conflict continued until Ho’s forces defeat France. After some negotiations, they split Vietnam in two, the north controlled by the communism and the south by France. 1955- 1966 Ngo Dinh Diem, an anti-communist, became the president of South Vietnam. Then, the United States started supporting Diem, against communism.
And in 1966, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand and Thailand joined the US and France. What happened? Diem arrested 100000 people, torturing and killing many of them.
In 1960, opponents in South Vietnam (communist and non-communist) formed the National Liberation Front to organize resistance to the regime of Diem. They claimed their independence.
Kennedy thought they were communist and sent more military and economic aid, to help confront DRV. Then a coup by some of his generals killed Diem three weeks before Kennedy was assassinated.
In 1964 the DRV attacked, and Kennedy’s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, ordered the bombing of military targets. He sent more troops and ordered attack. The war continued, until 1969, were hundreds of anti-war marches were made in the United States. They called for peace and the withdrawal of the US from the war. However, some troops stayed in South Vietnam trying to invade DRV.
Finally, in 1973, the US and North Korea made a peace agreement. However, war between North and South Vietnam continued, and in 1976, it was reunified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Álvaro Scarpellini

Marta Cabañas Historical context The Vietnam War occurred in the period denominated as Cold War; which was a sustained state of political and military tension between the territories dominated by the United States with the NATO and those ones dominated by the Soviet Union and its allies.
The Vietnam War had place in the territories of Vietnam, Laos, and Camboya, and occurred between the 1 of November of 1955 and the 30 of April of 1975. The most important leaders present during this war : The United States presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon.

The South Vietnam presidents Ngo Dinh Diem and Nguyen Van Thieu.

The North Vietnam presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ton Duc Thang.

Mao Zedong leader of the People's Republic of China.

Nikita Khrushchev leader of the Soviet Union. It finished with the capture of Saigon by the Vietnam People Army in April 1975 and a year after, the North and South Vietnam were reunified. Why this war occurred? The principal reason why this war began was a simple conflict between the communists that live in the region of North Vietnam and the anti communists who otherwise lived in the South region.
Between this two started a guerrilla that was not as strong or harmful as a typical war; but it will not last much time because a year later, the North Vietnamese Army engaged in a much more conventional war with the inhabitants of South Vietnamese region.
This fact forced the enter to the war of the U.S Army and its allies, who helped the South Vietnam to defeat the North Vietnam Army (who was helped by the communists countries) in its intention of conquering all the Vietnamese peninsula.
Finally the Anti Communists forces were defeated by the North Vietnam army and a year later all the Vietnam regions were unified. During WWII Japan occupied Vietnam, which was a territory that belonged to France since 19th century. Ho Chi Minh, a North Korean communist, formed the Viet Minh, a League for the independence of Vietnam.
