Mozambique Countries of focus One of the poorest and least developed countries in the world. 51% live on less than $1.25 a day. CIDA works with the Government of Mali for their Poverty
Reduction Strategy Plan (PRSP). PRSP focus: strengthen social sector, food security, and structural reforms. 2.7 million people displaced due to Darfur conflict. Large refugee influxes. Conflicts: chronic food and water shortages, and drought. CIDA objectives: implement peace agreements. One of the world's poorest nations. Ethiopia's needs: food security, improve basic services, agricultural development, Ranks 166/182 countries on HDI. CIDA contributions: improve quality of education, access to basic education (espicially girls), enhance their employability Progress to becoming a middle-income country by 2020. Macroeconomic issues: high inflation, significant deficits, large debt load. Ranks 151/182 countries on HDI. CIDA contributions: reduce income poverty, improve quality of life,
promote good governance. Ranks 172/182 countries on HDI. CIDA contributions: equality between men and women in health, education,
