When listing experience
Directions

Focus on what you learned, gained, achieved, accomplished in a certain task or overall position.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR RESUME STAND OUT

OR..

action
achievement
2. HIGHLIGHT ACHIEVEMENTS

"Received above average performance evaluations"
Print on quality paper using laser printer
Place emphasis on current position
Use action verbs when describing responsibilities and accomplishments

List web portfolio address
One page MAX!
DO
DON'T
Use pronouns like "I" and "me"
List GPA if lower than 3.0
Use abbreviations except for state or degree
Do not send your resume to multiple companies/recruiters at the same time. Address each email individually.
Spell check you resume AND all correspondence with recruiters; no exceptions.
Do not use the phrase, "passion for fashion" in ANY correspondence with recruiters or hiring managers (or any professional conversation).
Recruiters will read your email address. Do not use a "cute" or "crude" email address; something with derivative of your name works best.
If using a template when creating your resume, be sure to eliminate all remnants of the template. Recruiters see a lot of resumes and can tell when you used a pre-formatted resume template
The file name for your resume should include your name and the word "resume." Never name your resume file with names like the following: myresume, bestresume, goodresume, elegantresume, etc..

COVER LETTERS
PURPOSE :
A cover letter is to accompany a resume; interpreting your resume by adding a personal touch.
* It should complement, not duplicate your resume
Show you've done your research and that you understand who the company is.
Research current news. latest product lines and innovations, company direction
Share how your design style matches the company's
Share what skills you can bring to the table
Elaborate on your experience and education focusing on relevant skills
Let the company know they are your no.1 pick for an internship
The Lead Line
Mention the name of a personal contract
"Blaine Powell recommended I speak with you about an internship opening in your design department"
Spring a question that pushes one of the reader's hot buttons
"What area of opportunity do retailers have the biggest potential in to build customer relation?"
Deliver a bold statement that makes the employer want to understand how you could fulfill such a promise.
"Great article in the Sunday paper! As soon as I read it, I know I needed to get my resume to you right away?"
Begin with a quote that will snag the reader's attention
"Some men see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not." --playwright George Bernard Shaw
Comment on current news @ company, putting the company in positive light.
"I recently read about (something relevant to the company)."

Brand Visualization/Brand Mark
The visual presentation of your "brand"
The swoosh to Nike, the bull's eye to Target
How can you visually show your brand?
By establishing key visual elements such as a logo or symbol that is carried throughout your portfolio pages, resume, cover letter, and business card
Your brand mark should be consistent on your resume, cover letter, business card and web portfolio.. hence a "BRAND PACKAGE"
Brand Mark
Business Cards
At the end of the term, you will turn in a business card that has your web portfolio's web address
Your business card should have the same brand mark and identity as your resume and cover letter, and included in your Brand Package
How to Make Business Cards
1. Create & Order Online:
2. Create from Home Computer
Ex. Vistaprint.com: allows you to build your own design. You get 250 cards free (have to pay Sh/H)
-Microsoft Word: download templates from Microsoft Office Online; print on business card templates.
-quality however is worse since you're printing on home computer, and on template paper
