SNIPERs: THe SILENT KILLERs During WWI, Snipers preyed on trench-soldiers Careless soldiers paid dearly He wrote: “A sniper seemed to have our range from across on the other side of the valley in a clump of bushes some 500 yards away. He kept shooting in the trench along where we were... Finally, I set my sight and crawled up on the edge of the trench and fired two shots. At the second shot, the man rolled down the bank... The shooting from the sniper stopped.” My great-grandfather, Thomas Bryan McQuain, US Marine, dealt with snipers.
