photo credit Nasa / Goddard Space Flight Center / Reto Stöckli By: Kaitlin Kestermann AVI The Writer AVI AVI is a well known author . I read a biography about Avi. Avi has written many children's books including Poppy. Avi's Writting Methods Avi would use his real life experiences in his stories he wrote. How Avi got his name Avi got his name because when he and his sister where little, Emily could not pronounce his name right and the name stuck from then on. Interesting Facts The title of the book, "Who Was That Masked Man Anyway?" is a direct quote from, The Lone Ranger. Avi has a twin sister and an older brother, Emily and Henry. Avi and his twin sister, Emily, where born on December 23, 1937, in Manhattan, New York. Avi won awards for some of his books. Avi was told he wouldn't be a writer by his teachers because he couldn't spell. Avi has dysgraphia, which means he has trouble spelling. He could be thinking of a word and it come out as something else. For example: he could be thinking of the word talk and write the walk. About AVI Crispen: The Cross of Lead, was awarded a Newbery Medal. The Fighting Ground received a Scott O' Dell Award for historical fiction. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and Nothing But the Truth where both awarded Newbery Honor Awards. Avi was in elementary during WW 2. He liked to use real places he's been or lived as backdrops for his stories. It did not say in the book what Avi's real name was. Avi has dysgraphia and he was always told he wouldn't be a writter. His teachers didn't know Avi had dysgraphia because his parents never told anyone. :( :) THE END
