This business plan is all about you you you you you!
Listen to your song & identify genre
Copyright your song in tangible form.
Post it to yourself by registered post
Use it or lose it! Protect it
Register with IMRO
Record song.
Create demo.
Write out lyrics
Have the demo well presented.
Which Publishing Company.......Research!
We need to get the right fit!
Which publishing companies match your songs & genre ? Your type of music is folk and blues - I will target companies that deal with that niche.
Format demos according to each companies spec.
Networking is key!!
We can learn a lot from people who have experience with publishing or have publishing deals already.
Who to go to,what they are looking for and how to approach them are million dollar questions that many people are very willing to share the answers to!
Attending industry functions and going to songwriter nights is a way to get into that loop
Co-write with other published and unpublished artists. If you’re lucky they may introduce you to their publisher now or later on.

GET LEGAL ADVICE!
When offered a publishing deal..
Will I get an advance payment ?
Will I receive my 8.5% royalty rate?
How is publishing income split with other songwriting partners and band members ?
Find all these answers clearly in your contract.
If you can't find it...don't sign it!
1) Choose a recording studio
I recommend Claycastle as John Burke does a fabulous job
Showcase samples of his work available
Good 'TRACK' record!
Session musicians..
For the day to play
the backing music.
Live VS Clean sound ??
Live- faster/cheaper but quality ? compromised
Clean sound- each instrument has to be recorded separately...longer/expensive/better quality
Multi-Track Recording
Flexibility to re-do mistakes without having to play the whole track again.
MIXING
Mixing is an art as you have to blend
multi-tracks together down to two track
stereo format which is what you buy when
you download music from iTunes.
Contact PPI for ISRC code to embed into finished track for
identifying when mastering.
MASTERING:
Mastering is critical for balancing the volume of the album so the listener does not have to turn songs up and down.
Richard from WavMastering does a great job once mixing is finished.
The final mix is then smoothed by balancing out the low,mid-range and high parts of the mix making it ready for radio play and CD’s.
MANUFACTURING:
To make copies of the track to distribute to sellers we have to have CD’s.
This is where manufacturing comes in!
CD Duplicate or Replicate?
CD Duplication is similar to CD Replication because the same product result can be achieved with both.
Duplicated CD is produced by laser burning the image to CD-R disc & is more suited to low volume orders.
Replicated CD is produced by Stamping(Embossing) the image onto a CD-ROM.
Duplication.ie is one of the few Irish ISO approved CD duplication companies, ensuring a professional CD Duplication service.
I recommended CD Duplication- affordable rates such as 100 Digi packs of CD’s for €292 and 100 CD’s with card cover €205.
DISTRIBUTION FOR CLARE SANDS DÉBUT SINGLE
Not signed to any label...YET!
Harder to distribute to a wide market.
Recommend CDBaby as distributor of choice
Helps you release your music through iTunes and all previous distribution channels shown!
Cost effective- one off fee of $12.95 per single
$49 for an album.
ISRC (free) and barcode also available for extra $5.
Profit to you = 90c for every 99 cent download sold = Higher percentage on download sales revenue than through any other music retailer.
DISTRIBUTION
Promoting you
& your music !

Right digital distributor for your music?
It's important to make informed decisions when it comes to your music career.
If you're deciding between CD Baby, TuneCore, and ReverbNation for your distribution needs, the chart below should give you a good sense of the features and prices of each.
In a nutshell: TuneCore and ReverbNation don't take a cut of your sales but they do charge annual fees.
CD Baby takes 9% cut of digital sales, and has no annual fees.
In support of her debut single Clare will be touring Ireland with a 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS tour, accompanied by fellow songwriter and harpist Aisling Urwin. The quirky blues/folk duo have 12 dates in venues around the country, followed by dates in Holland , Germany & USA in 2015

TIMELINE FROM PRE RECORDING TO PROMOTION OF DÉBUT SINGLE MARCH- DECEMBER 2014
PRESS RELEASE::FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Whitechurch singer/songwriter Clare Sands is a 20 year old musician, composer and songwriter currently based in the vibrant musical city of Cork, Ireland. Having spent the summer of 2013 playing around New York City and making a name for herself in the tough NYC music scene, Clare is gearing up to release her worldwide debut single release Change Is A Comin' on 1st Dec via Itunes.

FORGET ABOUT CHRISTMAS….CHANGE IS A COMIN!
With what may well be a prophetic title as well as a defining statement, Clare Sands releases her first single “Change Is A Comin” and nails her convictions to the music wall! Deep rooted in family traditions of Irish traditional and folk music, Sands cleverly combines her love of Jazz and Blues into her debút single recorded at Claycastle Studios in Cork and pitched at the Christmas market. Capturing the talented young singer/songwriters unique voice and gritty lyrics the song demands the complete attention of the listener. The song presents a unique texture which recognises Sands’ influences, whilst presenting them in a new and energetic way.Oh yes, we predict that in the battle for the Christmas Number 1, this year .... Change Is A Comin! Watch this space!

In support of her debut single Sands' will be touring Ireland with a 12 days of Christmas tour (what else would you be doing??) accompanied by fellow songwriter and harpist Aisling Urwin. The quirky blues/folk duo have 12 dates in venues around the country, followed by dates in Holland and Germany and USA from January 2015.
