Write About Changes You Want to Make
1. Look at the performance factors and your answers on the first page of this activity. Which areas could you improve? Write about those areas.
I can improve in taking an interest in others, showing interest through body language, and having a sense of humor.
2. Describe a step you could take to improve in those areas.
To improve in taking an interest in others, I could start talking more to other people and asking them questions. To improve in showing an interest through actions, I could start trying to show my interest instead of appearing bored. To improve having a sense of humor, I could try to not be so serious and be more laid back.
Understanding Teamwork
Is This Active Listening?
1. Usually you will work alone, so it is not important to get along with others.
I disagree
because you will need to work with others like your supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
2. It is more important to be a strong leader than just a team player.
I agree
because being a strong leader means motivating others to work toward a goal, and strong leaders are needed to motivate team players.
3. You should speak the same way at work that you do with your friends.
I disagree
because you must be respectful to others, and usually you speak very casually to your friends, which is inappropriate for work.
4. At work you should be a good listener.
I agree
because showing interest and listening to others help you get along with others.
5. You should not let your anger decide how you act in a conflict.
I agree
because you should not take your anger out on coworkers. You should control your emotions and try to fix the situation, not worsen it.
