Leadership & Coherence
SI 530 Symposium
March 20, 2013
by Arthur Brock
What do you need to create something
AMAZING
in the world?
Money?
The Right
Connections?
A College
Degree?
$
A Killer Plan?
?
Why we created
Emerging Leader Labs?
Lots of places to:
Pay for "Schooling"
Paid for "Working"
Business Plans
Marketing
Management
Do what someone else
wants you to do.
Not so many places to:
Have Basic Needs Handled
Pursue
YOUR
Purpose
Practice Leadership
Human Dynamics
Co-Create
Inspire others
Produce Results
Housing
Food
Workspace
Transportation
Make a Difference
Design your project
Build your team
Our Secret Sauce...
is about the human dynamics.
Because if you can rally a community around something,
then you can make
all sorts of miracles happen.
Coherence.
Wait, what?
Example:
Steve Jobs was
described as having a "Reality Distortion Field."
...which made the impossible seem possible
Okay...
So now we've got a fancy word;
but what does it really mean?
Let's make a picture to help
illustrate how it all works...
You have a vision
of something that inspires you.
And you want
to make it happen.
Done
before:
Easy. People know how it works
and what to do.
New:
Not so easy. People don't know
what you're talking about.
Amazing things are typically
new.
(That's what makes them amazing.)
So you start talking about it:
And a lot of the
amazing new things...

are too big to do alone.
but people don't know what
you're talking about
and they're mostly
too busy to care
So you give up.

And nothing amazing happens.

The End.
or...
You get better at talking about it.
And start finding people who get it.
And maybe people who more than get it.
Like an "amplifier"
Who holds the vision with you and
somehow it even gets clearer
when you're talking with them.
And some "resonators"
Who may not quite hold the vision
on their own, but can work with
the rhythm you're laying down.
And now you've
got something
going on!

What's at the heart
of the picture?
Your
inspiration
& vision
The Inspiration: That fuels it all
The Vision: That holds it all together
That's what brings the people,
the money, the skills, the resources
the connections, and the magic
the making the project happen.
