WHY WAS THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA BUILT? The great wall of china was built to protect the country from invaders from the north. China's first emperor Qin Shihuang first came up with the idea of the walls dividing gone territory from another in 214 b.c One of the reasons it was built was for the emperor to send his messengers from one end of China to the other by the wall The wall was wide enough to send big items through. The wall would protect China from invasion of Nomadic people (people who come from a tribe that travel from place to place instead of just living in one spot. Building the wall was a great idea from Qin Shihuang because there were already a few walls in the north which ment that all he had to do was connect the walls to make one big wall. WHAT IS THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA USED FOR TODAY? The great wall of China has now lost it's strategic importance. It has now become a world renowned tourist attraction. All the hard work building the wall has paid off because it is now one of the greatest wonders of the world and is admired by many people all over the world.
