Period 2 WHO? WHY? WHERE? The Korean War started between two different Korean groups. One of the groups wanted to change the government to communism while the other group didn't. The United States interveened after the Soviets sponsored the Northern section of Korea tried to invade Southern Korea. After the U.S. entered the war, it continued for about three years. During the Korean War there were more than 142,000 American battle casualties. The Korean War was fought and started in Korea. The Korean War was fought over Whether or not to change the Korean government to communism. Statistics There were about 54,200 American deaths during thid war. 6.8 million American men and women fought from 1950-1955.
