Transcript of SHIPWRECKED!
Who is in your group, what item to they have with them, and what are they wearing on their physical body that might also be useful?
The following tasks
are VITAL to
Survival. As a group, rank them in order of importance.
Well, it's definitely deserted. Now what?
We've come to the realization that we will be here for a while until help arrives. There are many challenges ahead on upcoming game cards. As a group, talk through the challenges and decide how
you will handle them.
BE PREPARED TO SHARE OUT WITH
THE WHOLE GROUP.
Each group has different items and different skills, so it will be interesting to see the many ways the problems can be solved. We will go around the room to see how each group solves each challenge.
Assign Team Jobs
When you are trying to figure out the best way to accomplish a task, it's smart to let the person with the most experience in that area take the lead. Talk about your personal skills and expertise and assign jobs accordingly. Some jobs might be things like "The Chef" and "The Security Expert" or "The Construction Foreman" "The Medic" etc.
Wave Goodbye to
Oh, no! Our beautiful cruise ship has CRASHED and we, the survivors, are stuck on this island with only ONE item each and the clothes on our backs!
We must now figure out how to use our own personal knowledge and skills as well as the items we each brought to work together and SURVIVE until help arrives!
YOU'VE BEEN SAVED!!!!
The RESCUE PLANE has arrived!
The FIRST GROUP to solve the following riddle not only gets to leave the island with everyone else, but they also get THE TREASURE.
A Strategy, Team building, and Storytelling Game
You will be TIMED
You only have a certain amount of time to solve each challenge, so do your best to work together and to not
waste time with arguing.
Every person in your group matters! Play to your strengths and compromise when necessary.
You have FINALLY saved enough money to take that amazing cruise you have been dreaming about. You pack your bags and board the boat!
ON A PIECE OF PAPER:
1) What are you wearing for your first day on the boat? Be VERY specific and detailed from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet.
2) What ONE object do you have in your bag that you can't live without which might also be helpful in an emergency? (Remember, it should be something you can legitimately have on a cruise ship that fits into a pocket or bag.)
MAKE A LIST ON YOUR PAPER OF ALL OF YOUR ITEMS. If there are five people in your group, your list should show five items.
DESCRIBE THE SHELTER YOU AND
YOUR TEAM WILL BUILD. WHAT IS IT MADE OF AND HOW IS IT CONSTRUCTED? Sketch a picture of it.
Remember to use your items and clothing as creatively
as possible to find helpful ways to complete these tasks and challenges.
AFTER CLIMBING TO THE HIGHEST PEAK OF THE TALLEST MOUNTAIN ON THE ISLAND,WE HAVE REALIZED THAT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNAL TO MAKE ANY OF OUR ELECTRONIC DEVICES WORK. Electronic items may only be used for physical parts and not for apps or calls (You can use it to squish bugs, for example, but not to ask Siri for a map of the area). While we are up here, let's look around!
Let's zoom out and look at our island! We are totally surrounded by water. There are trees, mountains, and ONE fresh water pond with fish. The ship has finally sunk below the water and we can no longer access it. It's us against nature now, using only our wits and our items.
DO NOT TRY AND COME UP WITH SPECIFIC SCENARIOS YET. SIMPLY PUT YOUR BASIC NEEDS
EVERY PERSON MUST HAVE A JOB.
FIRST CHALLENGE: SHELTER
Food - Shelter - Water - Emergency Signal
LET'S ORIENT OURSELVES TO THE ISLAND
I suggest sketching a map of the island on the back of your paper.
OH, NO!! JUST as you finished building your
shelter, a HUGE rainstorm came. Look at the way your shelter is constructed. Are you safe? Do you have to rebuild? BE HONEST.
If your shelter was well-constructed, enjoy a good night's sleep. Those who need to re-build or do repairs should take a few minutes to design their new shelter. Any groups doing a re-build must share what they changed.
Once everyone is in sturdy shelters, you may move on.
After getting a good night's sleep in your sturdy shelter, you wake up extremely thirsty! That storm might have been hard on your shelter, but fortunately...it filled the fresh water pond up to the top!
Discuss how you will gather, filter, and store water for drinking, bathing, and cleaning. Go around the room and share your ideas.
The Game Leader will decide how much time you are allowed for each task.
SECOND CHALLENGE: WATER
THIRD CHALLENGE: FOOD
Can you fish? Hunt? Forage for edible plants? Describe how you plan to use your skills and items to find food on the island.
Oh, NO! Whether it was the berries you saw on the way back to camp or that strange looking fish you caught, TWO people in your group are too sick to help with the final challenge! Decide which two people must be silent and may not help with the next task.
You've found a wide, open space. PERFECT for building some kind of distress signal!
What do you make, what materials are you using, and how do you do it?
Sketch your signal on your paper and when time for this challenge is up, we will share with the group.
VOTE ON THE BEST EMERGENCY SIGNAL.
hipwrecked we are, once a proud crew,

ictory was ours, but now has its cost,
ven so, we must count the lost.
