and James lucero INTRODUCTION What is the digestive system?
Definition Digestion is The process by which food is changed so that it can be absorbed by body cells. Diagram ffffffffffffffffffff fffffffffffff f It's the body system that breaks down food into
nutrients that can be used by the body. Connects the mouth and stomach The Gland that oozes bile to
help break down fats, mantain
blood sugar levels, and filter
poisonous wastes LIVER Esophagus The organ that rleases acids and
juices that mix with food and produce a thick paste called Chyme. (KIM) STOMACH PANCREAS The gland that produces both digestive enzymes and insulin. SMALL INTESTINE The coiled tube in which the greatest amount of digestion and absorbtion takes place. LARGE INTESTINE A tube extending from the small intestine in
which undigested food is prepared for
elimination from
the body. The Digestive system also allows nutrients
to be absorbed by the body cells and
waste materials to be eliminated from the body. HOW tO KEEP YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
HEALTHY Eat Fiber Enriched foods Make sure you eat a large variety of different foods
every day that contain fiber. Foods such as breads and fruits/
vegetables are great sources of fiber. enjoyment chew slowly and enjoy your food. Don't rush to finish a meal.
chew well and avoid indegestion. fluids Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. water is used in many
bodily functions including digestion. PROBLEMS and DISEASES If you dont keep up on a healthy routine, it can
lead to problems like: *Liver Disease *Leaky gut syndrome- Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition which
causes the intestinal lining to become inflamed. THAT's REALLY WHAT
It's called *irritABLE BOWEL SYNDROME- abdominal pain or discomfort in association with frequent diarrhea or constipation, a change in bowel habits. There may also be urgency for bowel movements, a feeling of incomplete evacuation (tenesmus), bloating or abdominal distention. and more!
