Elizabeth Rae Ramos Inferencing IV- Archdiocese of Davao Inferring—making inferences—is often described as making a logical guess or "reading between the lines." Direction: Using your best inference strategies, make an inference about the following statements. We will check it one by one so be honest! Good Luck! :) A woman walks into a hospital clutching her abdomen and cursing out her husband, who trails
behind her carrying a large bag. #1 a.) The woman is in labor. b.) The woman has an abdominal pain. c.) The husband accidentally stabbed her wife's
abdomen A woman walks into a hospital clutching her abdomen and cursing out her husband, who trails behind her carrying a large bag. Correct Answer is: A-The woman is in labor. You forgot to zip up your fly c.) There's a clown behind you d.) There's a spider on your head As you give a speech in front of a large audience, you realize that people are laughing behind their hands and pointing to the region below your waist. Correct Answer: B-You forgot to zip up your fly Why? The sentence tells us that the people are
laughing and pointing to the region below your
waist. It means they're laughing at something
located below your waist and that is your
unzipped zipper. #3 #4 Julian almost wished that he hadn’t listened to the radio. He went to the closet and grabbed his
umbrella even though he would feel silly carrying it to the bus stop on such a sunny morning. b.) He heard that there would be an umbrella contest on their city. c.) Julian remembered that his girlfriend wants an umbrella. Julian almost wished that he hadn’t listened to the radio. He went to the closet and grabbed his umbrella even though he would feel silly carrying it to the bus stop on such a sunny morning. Correct Answer: A-Julian heard that it was going to rain later in the day. Why? The sentence gave us four clues. 1.)listened to the radio, 2.)umbrella, 3.) he would feel silly carrying it BECAUSE 4.) it's a sunny morning. So it is going to rain later in the day as broadcast in the radio. NOT an umbrella contest and NOT even to give the umbrella to his girlfriend. A man ran after a retreating bus, waving his briefcase frantically. b.) The man had to take that bus to work and he was running late. c.) He wanted the bus driver to stop the bus so he could get on it. A man ran after a retreating bus, waving his briefcase frantically. Correct Answer: B and D- The man had to take that bus to work and he was running late. He wanted the bus driver to stop the bus so he could get on it. Why? B and D are both correct because the man wanted to stop the bus so he could go to work because he was running late. NOT that he is crazy.
