Setting/Time Period:
Insurgent was set in 23rd or 24th century Chicago.
Tris (who has just killed Will, who was under a simulation) and her friends are on the run. They take refugee in the Amity compound, and Tris cuts her hair. While she is distracted by Marcus, Peter tries to steal the hard drive from her room. Tris punches Peter and violates the Amity rules, and soon after, Dauntless arrive looking for Divergents. Tris, Four, and Caleb flee and run into the factionless, who after realizing Four is Tobias, take him to his mother, Evelyn, queen of the factionless. (suprise! she's alive!) To find out what is really going on, Tris and Four decide to go to Candor. Along the way, Caleb leaves and says he's going to Abnegation. When they get t Candor, they are injected with a truth serum and Tris admits she killed Will. Dauntless attack Candor and Four shoots Eric. They go to factionless living space and people begin to commit suicide until Tris is handed over. Tris turns herself in, is tortured by Jeanine, and the box opens. The message says Divergents are the answer and to go beyond the wall. Jeanine is jailed and Evelyn shoots her.
Science Fiction
Young Adult
Johanna, the Amity leader, plays a smaller role in the events
Marcus, Tobias' father, is also barely in the movie
In the book, Tris emotionally struggles with using guns, but not in the movie
In the movie, there is a device that tells what percent Divergent someone is
The end sequence is different
The factionless don't steal all the guns in the end
Tris, Four, and the others are on the run from Jeanine and the rest of the Erudite. Jeanine is doing everything in her power to capture Divergents, and basically torture them in attempt to get them to open a box that contains a message from the founders. Tris and Four must stop Jeanine, because Tris' parents and many others sacrificed their lives for it.
Your Feelings:
I liked the Insurgent movie but I will almost always prefer the book over the movie. I also don't like Insurgent as much as I liked Divergent. However, I love the cast of the movies.
In the books, Tris doesn't cut her hair as short but Shailene Woodley refused to wear a wig after filming The Fault in Our Stars
Insurgent was Kate Winslet's first ever sequel
Not all book characters were in the movie
