Casing arrives to be layered onto the compost. Casing is essential for the formation of mushrooms, it holds water protecting both the root system and mycelium.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MUSHROOMS

There are different types of mushrooms that are grown in australia incuding: Button mushrooms, Shiitake, Flats, Enoki, Shimeji, Potabella, King Brown, Cup, Swiss brown, Chestnuts, White fungus, Wood ear, White Oyster, Yellow Oyster and Pink Oyster mushrooms.

A layer of 5cm is applied onto the compost surface.
The peat then gets ruffeled which helps to stimulate growth.
The case run is then watered down and the temperature is kept at 25 degrees.
1 week later the temperature is lowered and fresh air is introduced. This process stimulates the formation of mushrooms.
2 weeks after, the mushrooms must be carefully handpicked.
The root is cut and the mushrooms are placed into punnets.
Picked mushrooms are moved into refrigeration to keep fresh until ready for collection.
Watering is required between flushes.
Eventually the compost becomes worn out and has to be removed.
Everything in the tunnel is then washed.
Mushroom production has to be kept clean and tidy, this helps prevent diseases from attacking the crop.
HARVESTING
Industries pick the mushrooms by hand
so they can see what's ready or not. Most industries use trays stacked on top of each other
(A) for no light and moist air
(B) easier to pick
Mushrooms need damp dark places to grow otherwise the spore will die.
