Transcript of Baseball
The Beginning of Baseball
The origins of baseball are uncertain. Traces of a game played with a bat and a ball date back to ancient Egypt. Rounders, an old English game is an ancestor of baseball. As much as people would like to point to a single person as the one who invented baseball, there is no moment in history when baseball as we know shows up on the scene.
Babe Ruth and Joe Carter are two very well known baseball players that used to play the sport. Babe Ruth is seen as the best baseball player of all time by a lot of people. Joe Carter is most famous for hitting a walk-off home run to win the 1993 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Jose Bautista and Derek Jeter are a couple of players that are very popular today.
Baseball is also known as the national pastime of the US. Baseball is the most popular sport in the country. Speaking broadly there are two levels of competitions – the minor league baseball and the major league baseball or MLB. These league competitions are not only watched in the US but also around the world.

Popular Baseball Players
The MLB (Major League Baseball) is a professional baseball league consisting of teams that play in the National and American League . Some of the teams include the Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
In the past, baseball had different rules compared to today. Players couldn't use gloves, the batter couldn't run over first base, and the players could get out if a person on the other team caught the ball after one bounce off the ground. Also foul balls were not strikes, there was no sliding, leading off, or stealing and the umpire only called strikes, so there were no walks. These rules are all different in the game today. But they both do have some common rules, one being wherever a ball lands, it determines if it's foul or fair. Another rule they have is that umpires can choose to eject certain players.
