Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In a way my horror film trailer challenges forms of conventions of real media products as well as use them. In my trailer I used the location of an industrial estate which does have a horror edge however, it is extremely unique. It gives off the impression that the antagonist has not come from a very wealthy background. Mid way through the trailer when a certain event occurs this again develops the conventions as it keeps the audience tense and aware of what is going on.
During the process of creating my horror trailer, I used various film trailer to analyse to gain a sense of inspiration to create my own horror trailer. I used The House At The End of the Street and Insidious.
Watching both of these horror trailers I was able to Identify the conventions held in the trailers and then include them into my own individual film trailer. In all major horror films there must be a protagonist and an antagonist. In my trailer there is both a protagonist and an antagonist however at first the audience are tested to decide which is which, as my trailer has a slight twist to it. This allows for the audience to be intrigued in the film and gives them a scene of recognition knowing what the characters role are.
I ensured that my horror film poster used obvious conventions as in the horror poster I wanted to make sure that when somebody looks at it they recognise straight away that it is a horror film that is being advertised. I used dark colours throughout and I took lots of time to edit the picture to ensure it gave a horror edge. The font that I used on my horror poster also is conventional as it has a horror look about it.
Moving onto my horror magazine I also developed the codes and conventions as I enhanced the image by using various editing tools. The lighting is extremely effective along with the red texture as the background. The headlines are extremely effective and the fonts that I chose are consistent. The film strip at the bottom of the magazine was conventional for the "Fangoria" magazine however it is challenging the codes and conventions for every other magazine.
