Why do people smoke?
Most people try their first cigarette when they are in their teens and keep smoking until they become an adult. Some have tried to quit smoking but it's really hard because smoking is such a strong addiction.There are many different reasons why people smoke. Contributing factors to why teens start smoking is to look mature, peer pressure, so they can be like their friends. Seeing older people around them smoking, especially their parents and relatives may be a factor in teens starting to smoke.

What Is Nicotine?
Cigarettes contain the drug called nicotine. Nicotine creates a complex form of an addiction, which makes you want to smoke, even if you would prefer to stop. Every time you smoke a cigarette, it create this addiction. If you stop smoking, you get nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Some of the effects are
-Fast heartbeat
-fever with or without chills
-nausea with or without vomiting
-runny nose
-shortness of breath, tightness in the chest,
-trouble with breathing, or wheezing
-skin rash, itching, or hives
-tearing of the eyes.
Globally, about 5.5 trillion cigarettes are produced each year more than two cigarettes per person per day. China is the largest producer of cigarettes. In 2004, China produced 1.79 trillion cigarettes. The United States, by contrast, produced about 499 billion that year. About 1.3 billion people worldwide smoke. About 15 billion cigarettes are sold daily that's about 10 million per minute.
More men than women smoke worldwide, about 1/3 of the adult male population smokes. Tobacco kills about one in 10 people ever year. Someone dies from tobacco use every eight seconds.
In 2007, the international coastal cleaned up about 2 million cigarette butts.

How cigarettes affect your body
Cigarette smoking harms the body by raising cholesterol levels and blood pressure, as well as increasing the risk of cancer and cataracts. Smoking destroys certain vitamins and creates the need for other specific nutrients.

Nicotine, the drug that makes tobacco addictive, goes to your brain very quickly.
Nicotine makes you feel good when you are smoking, but it can make you nervous, moody, and depressed after you smoke.
Using tobacco can cause headaches and dizziness.

Tobacco stains your teeth and gives you bad breath.
Tobacco ruins some of your taste buds, so you won't be able to taste your favorite foods as well.
Tobacco causes bleeding gums and cancers of the mouth and throat.

Smoking increases your heart rate and blood pressure and causes heart disease and heart attacks.
If you try to do activities like exercise or play sports, your heart has to work harder to keep up.

How can smoking affect your baby
Smoking and pregnancy don't mix. Smoking while pregnant not only puts your own health at risk, but your unborn baby’s health as well. Cigarettes contain dangerous chemicals, including nicotine, carbon monoxide, and tar. It has been proven that smoking significantly increases the risk of numerous pregnancy complications, some of which can be fatal for the mother or baby. Cigarette smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, like lead, and at least 60 cancer-causing compounds. When you smoke during pregnancy, that toxic brew gets into your bloodstream, your baby's only source of oxygen and nutrients.

How to Stop Smoking
Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do to improve your life and health. Any attempt to quit smoking will make you stronger. Maybe start with smoking two cigarettes a day then later one cigarette and as soon as know it you can stop smoking. All you need is love and support.
