Transcript of Beware, chemicals ahead

The answer to our deadly disaster?
Other facts about the harmful effects of chemicals
•One chemical in a body of water may not be harmful, one or more chemicals combined could be dangerous
•The Northwest has pesticides that run off from husbandry (agricultural) lands, and urban areas
•John Incardona and Nathaniel Scholz discovered that polycyclic aromatic hydro carbons (also known as PAHs) that were left in the pacific waters following the Exxon Valdes oil spill cause herring and pink embryos to have heart defects
•PAHs are still a hazard for fish that dwell in coastal ares
•Some combinations of pesticides are extremely harmful to the salmon population
•Solvents and metals pollute lakes and rivers. These are troublesome for many forms of aquatic life
How are chemicals effecting plants?
Fertilizers such as nitrogen and phosphorous are helpful to plant growth because they help with photosynthesis, when these fertilizers runoff into water, you may see sprouting flowers. but too much of these fertilizers create algae death zones. These are harmful because these areas have a reduced amount of oxygen.
Toxic chemicals from industries being dumped into the ocean is unhealthy for oceanic life in because it heats up the water level, this is known as thermal pollution. The water eventually becomes to warm for the plants to survive and they soon dimise
Coral reefs are highly affected by oil spills, ten oil rises to the top of the water and this forbids sun from reaching the coral reef. This is a problen to the process of photosynthisis
How to save plants
One solution to our hazardous algae issues is to plant seaweed farms. they soak up excess nutrients and they also serve as a food
We can stop oil pollution in our waters by convincing industries to switch from dangerous chemicals to safer options
How to save animals
•Don't dump chemicals into the waters because they can combine with other types of chemicals and create a harmful stubstance
Beware, chemicals ahead!
How are chemicals effecting animals?
How to save humans
Throw trash in a trash cn instead of the ocean
Do not dispose of chemicals or other dangerous matter in drains
Increase awareness about water pollution
How are chemicals effecting humans?
•When we drink impure water our body is affected and we may expierence
a stomach ache
•Drinking water that is infested with pesticides hurts the nervous system
and can also give you cancer
•You can catch water-born diseases such as Malaria and Typhoid
