Cytoskeleton Organelles Cell Membrane acts as a boundary and hold the contents together. It keeps other substances from entering. Cell Wall is the structural support and protection for the cell. It is only found in plant cells. Nucleus serves as the "brain" for the control of contol of the cell's metabolic activities and cell division. It is found in both plant and animal cells. Nucleolus is the resevoir for RNA. It is a non-membrane structure composed of proteins and nucleic acids found within the nucleus in plants and animal cells. Centrioles are 2 cylindrical oraganelles found near the nucleus in a tiny round body called the centrosome. They are present in animal cells. Ribosomes serve as sites for protein synthesis. Some are found free in cytoplasm while others are attached to E.R. Plant and animal cells both contain these. Golgi Apparatus manufactures carbohydrates and packages secretions for discharge from the cell. It finishes, sotsts, labels, and ships proteins. It is found in animal and plant cells. It is 2.5 micrometers in size. Endoplasmic Reticulum works on proteins and makes membranes. There are two types: rough and smooth. Mitochondria makes ATP energy in cellular respiration. It is a double membrane. it is 3 micrometers and it found in plant and animal cells. The mitochondria is also known as the "powerhouse" to the cell. Chloroplasts captures light energy to conserve free energy. The structure is a double walled semi-permeable membrane. It is only found in plant cells. It is 6 micrometers in size. Lysosomes digest food used to make energy. They clean up and recycle. The structure is a membrane sac of digestive enzymes. Lysosomes are .5-1.5 micrometers in size. Peroxisomes breakdown very long long chains of fatty acids. They are 3 micrometers in length and are found in plant and animal cells. Vacuole transports inside cells. It is used for storage. It is present in all plant cells and some animal cells. Vacuoles size varies from 1-10 micrometers. Cytoskeleton is contained within the cytoplasm and is made out of protein. It is present in animal and plant cells and is .01 micrometers in size. ANIMAL CELL
